  • The following email was sent to you 9/27:

Here is a tentative schedule for your Poster Project.  Here is the topic list.  You have been teamed up with others from your class with similar topics who you should coordinate with.  Have them review your work each step of the way and provide you with feedback.  Use the pipeline system to send materials back and forth to each other.  You may include up to 20% material from your partner’s paper in a supporting role (not a leading role) as it relates to your topic.  More will be explained and discussed in class.

10/2  One page outline or rough draft due.  Should be reasonably well
developed.  Should have at least three sources listed.  Include copy of the first page of each source attached to your one page outline.

10/9  Three to five page draft is due.  Your paper should be well along
here.  Will distribute for peer review.

10/16  Peer reviews returned.  Will re-distribute back to you at end of
    class.

10/23  Final draft of paper due (more than five pages in length).  Will
    distribute for peer review.

10/30  Peer reviews returned.  Will re-distribute back to you at end of
    class.

11/6  Assignment due.  No more changes allowed after this.  This is
your final product.  Post on Pipeline Discussion Board as final draft (Pipeline posting limits may not post your entire paper, just post what you can).  Reviews of three papers due following week.  Review your partners, the person above you, the person below you.  Post (1) what you like about paper, (2) what can be added to paper.  Focus on positives, not negatives.

11/6  Poster Presentations begin.  You will present your paper using
either a poster board, using power point, or using your own custom
built web site.  First students to present will get extra credit.

11/13 On line Reviews due.  Authors are to respond to reviews.

  • Regarding Posting your Paper on the Class Message Board.

A number of students have emailed me to ask where the "Message Board Discussion Topic" can be found for posting their papers.  Apparently you can't see it when you log into the class on Pipeline.  I think (but am not sure) that this will solve the problem.

When you are looking at your list of classes, click the "My Consolidated Courses" link at the far right of your screen just above the list of classes.  Then Select "All Honors Astro".  Then select "Message Board".  Then select "Poster Paper Posting".  Then click on "Post a Message" to post your paper, or while reading a message click "Reply" to post your response.

Give that a try and hopefully that will work.  I created a group to meld all the different Honors sections together and that may be why you can't find the Message Board posting in your individual class section.

  • Clarification on Required Outside Activities.

As a follow-up to our class discussion, here is the info for the Required Outside Activities.  As honors students, I would like to have you do one outside activity (either a planetarium show or star show) and watch one of the selected videos.  Follow the instructions posted on my class extra credit web site.  Follow the directions on my class extra credit assignment and fill out the questions at the end and bring to class or email to me.  You can get regular extra credit for these in your regular class and meet the requirement for Honors (double dipping is OK).  Here is the link to my extra credit web site:

The Starry Night activities we discussed in class will be made available to you in a few weeks.  It would be a good idea to remind me next week to get that set up.
